"Report of student from partner university"
My project was about the study of vibration reduction with granular materials for a single degree of freedom structure under small displacements. Many parameters were investigated such as the gap, the diameters of particles, the mass of granular materials and the excitation level, and how they affect the damping mechanisms. The concept of the equivalent added mass was introduced to describe physically the damping characteristics of granular material.
Without doubt, doing my internship in TDU and in one of its excellent laboratory was very informative and will be one of the best professional experiences. Having the freedom to work when I want and no pressure was put on me was very efficient and offered me an environment to give a better job. The most fun part was going out for lunch with my lab mates, play soccer and the nomikai dinner. Being not able to speak Japanese was for me the hardest part since almost my lab mates don't speak English.
Since I have only done an internship so I don´t know too much about studies, teachers….But from what I heard from other foreign students and from my experience in Mr.Sato lab, I can say the TDU offers a multi-purpose and quality training. The professors are very qualified and students are actively involved.
The stuff of the international center is amazing: they are very kind, welcomes every student from his first days; provides support and any kind of help. I have been a student in the USA for one year and in France for two years, I can definitely say that studying in Japan, especially in TDU is beyond the expectations. So to every student, if you have a chance to come to TDU just don't think twice.
